President's Message

Hello WTS Members and Friends,

Is everyone hot enough?! This is about the time of year I start begging for winter again. I know we’ve probably all heard about heat safety so far this summer. But don’t forget about those fur babies. Believe it or not, our furry friends can also experience heat-related illnesses, including heat stroke and dehydration, as well as paw pad burns. As responsible pet parents, we must protect them from potential heat hazards to ensure they have a happy and healthy summer. Did you know that shaving your pet’s hair can actually interfere with their ability to cool down and may also lead to sunburn from increased skin exposure. So, if your pet needs a trim, try to refrain from shaving them. Instead, provide plenty of water and shade, and keep your pets inside when it’s extremely hot.

Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July and is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disabled members of our community. Fun fact: July 30 marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. While the ADA is an essential component of the work we do in the transportation industry, this legislation also broke down barriers to inclusion in society. But barriers still exist, which is why we need to honor every kind of disability, the people who identify with them, and the support they need to thrive. One of the most important ways you can honor the disability rights movement is by educating your elected officials about policies that harm and strengthen the quality of life of people with disabilities.

Our Golf Tournament Committee is hard at work planning another amazing event! You may have already seen the Save The Date Announcement. But, if you haven’t, don’t forget to mark your calendar for Friday, September 8. Keep an eye on your inbox for information about Registration or Sponsorship opportunities. I look forward to seeing you all there. If you would like to volunteer with this event or other areas within our chapter, there are plenty of opportunities to help with a variety of committees, activities, and programs. Please reach out to anyone on our Leadership Team if you’d like to find out more. As always, remember to stay safe, take care of yourself and respect each other. And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
